Against each of the appliances you've selected, we've added the number of hours and minutes we think you're likely to use it each day. Feel free to make changes – you will notice the cost per day and cost per 60 day figures will change accordingly.
Please Remember: Costs produced by this calculator are examples only and simply indicate the possible cost of running different appliances. Actual costs can vary greatly depending on the size, star rating, location, age and efficiency of individual appliances and the way and times they are used by different people in the home.

Indoor/Outdoor Living Area Tips
- Close your curtains to keep cool air in when it's hot outside.
- Use high rated insulation in your ceilings.
- Close any doors to parts of the home that do not need to be cooled or heated.
- Clean the filters of your air conditioning system regularly.
- Opt for a comfortable room temperature. Over-cooling or over-heating by just 1 degree, can increase your bill by as much as 10%.

Bedroom Tips
- In cold weather switch on your electric blanket an hour before you go to bed. When you climb into a cosy warm bed, you're less likely to feel the need to keep the blanket on for as long as you do when you start off in a cold bed.
- If you have a waterbed, keeping it well covered will preserve its heat for much longer.
- Use heating and cooling to raise or lower room temperature ahead of bedtime.
- Switch off unnecessary lights.
- Use energy efficient fluorescent globes wherever you can - you can save up to 80% in lighting costs.

Bathroom Tips
- Insulate your hot water pipes.
- Turn the water-heater off when you go on holiday or if you plan to be away from home for more than a few days.
- Repair leaking hot water taps straight away.
- Make sure you set the hot water thermostat to 65 deg C - any more is wasting money.
- If you have solar-heated water - think about adding a timer to your booster so it only heats, if necessary, for periods of high use.
- Have your water heater checked regularly by a professional.

Laundry Tips
- Using cold water in your washing machine is much more cost effective. Using a large top loader could make each wash up to six times cheaper than if you use hot water.
- Don't overload your tumble dryer.
- Hang out your laundry to dry. It saves money and avoids heat damage to your clothes.
- Clean the lint filter after each completed cycle.
